DSW to open Newport News store Thursday

Ohio-based DSW Inc. will open its first Peninsula store Sept. 3 at the Marketplace at Tech Center development in the Oyster Point retail district in Newport News.
The 18,000-square-foot store, located at 12080 Jefferson Ave., will be stocked with 21,000 pairs of designer and brand name shoes for men and women, according to a news release. The store will also sell accessories for men and women, including socks, wallets, ponchos, wraps, and handbags.
"We're so excited to open a store in the Newport News area," said Carrie McDermott, executive vice president and chief operating officer of DSW, in a news release. "DSW's footprint continues to grow, and we are committed to being the goto destination for all of our customers' shoe and accessory needs."
DSW will operate 455 stores in 42 states once the Newport News location opens Thursday.
Meanwhile, more stores and restaurants are slated to open at the Tech Center development in the coming months.
BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse, known for its beer and deep-dish pizza, recently opened its fourth Virginia restaurant at Tech Center as part of the Southern California-based company's expansion in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
Starbucks opened in June along Jefferson Avenue.
Mellow Mushroom has a sign on its building advertising that the pizza restaurant is hiring. Job interviews begin at the end of August for a fall opening, according to its Newport News Facebook page.
Other yet-to-open retailers include: P.F. Chang's, Cafe Rio, Jimmy John's, Zoe's Kitchen, Conte's Bike Shop, Mattress Firm, Ulta, Stein Mart, Point2, Navy Federal Credit Union, Five Below, Carter's, OshKosh B'gosh and Massage Envy.
